My favorite quote from a great review on Josefina Gutierrez's blog.

"She begins the book as an introverted outsider with a seemingly unrequited crush which ends far too quickly, into a savior."

NA Dystopian Romance
Omnific Publishing (a partner of Simon & Schuster)

Book blurb:

“Your family is the most important part of your life. Your families are the people you love, and love is what separates us from scoundrels and criminals. It maintains order. Your parents, your sibling, and your Partner, are the ones you love. There should never, ever, be anyone else who comes close to that bond. You have only one best friend, and that is the person you’ll be marrying someday. We must learn to differentiate the relationships in our lives: the people we love, and the ones we don’t. It’s inappropriate, it’s foolish, and it’s forbidden to think otherwise.”

Trace Bailey’s mouth is her worst enemy – somehow it always gets her in trouble. Luckily, she has a partner in crime – her best friend and neighbor since age seven, Piren Allston. He can’t get enough of her crazy sense of humor, and she loves that he’s always up for another adventure.

They can’t be friends, though, not in their world. Trace and Piren were Assigned to other people at the age of six, and they’re supposed to marry their Partners when they turn twenty-four. Failure to comply leads to Banishment, a fate worse than death.

Worse still is the growing realization that their bond is stronger than just friendship.

In a world without freedom, there are still choices to be made. Following their hearts means losing their family, but following the law means losing each other.

Zoe Jabril could be just another 17-year-old girl attending parties with her friends and checking out cute guys—except her best friend is a Guardian Angel, and the boy she crushes on is a Nephilim, half-Angel, both sent to Earth to protect her. A high school classmate happens to be a trendsetting shopaholic Fairy. And now there’s a new Werewolf in town.

Zoe has to deal with her feelings toward Shay, who spreads a strange electrical current through her body every time he touches her. She is under constant attack from Demons, trying to kill and stop her from fulfilling the Prophecy: a girl will be born who will unite the Enlightens to battle evil. Then on top of that, between boring homework and drama with girls at school, she has to control new found talents if she’s to prevent the Devil from escaping Hell.

In order to do so, Zoe must devise a kick-ass plan ASAP or watch everyone die, because she’s running out of time. She turns eighteen in two months—the date Armageddon kicks off.

Not to worry you, but the end of days might be at hand.
We are in the middle of a Lunar Tetrad—a series of four Total Eclipses (also called Blood Moons), each one six months apart. Lunar Tetrads are relatively rare. The next time we will experience one is 2032-2033.

Here are the dates for the Blood Moons in the current Lunar Tetrad:
April 15, 2014
October 8, 2014
April 4, 2015 (today!)
September 28, 2015

These dates coincide with important Jewish festivals: Passover in the spring and The Feast of the Tabernacle in the fall. The timing of the Blood Moons in this particular Lunar Tetrad has convinced some believers that the Apocalypse is at hand.

After all, the moon has been foretold to turn red before the End of Days.

Joel 2:31 (Common English Bible):
The sun will be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood before the great and dreadful day of the LORD comes.

During a Total Lunar Eclipse, the Earth's shadow creeps across the full moon, blocking direct sunlight. Indirect sunlight must pass through the Earth's atmosphere before reflecting on the moon. Our atmosphere filters out the green to violet portion of the light spectrum. The remaining reddish light first refracts towards the Earth's surface and then onto the moon, giving it a reddish glow. The amount of humidity, dust, and temperature in the Earth's atmosphere will determine what shade (often copper to dark red, but if there has been recent volcanic action more grey to black) the Blood Moon will appear.

Native Americans called the full moon of October the Hunter's Moon or Blood Moon. That month, the moon rose soon after sunset and appeared full for several evenings in a row. Since the moon hung so low in the sky, it appeared a more reddish tone due to the increase in the amount of atmosphere between the Earth and the Moon when viewed at that angle. The brightness of the full moon helped Native Americans hunt, thereby spilling blood of deer and other prey on the ground—also symbolic of a Blood Moon.

After Mike drowns in the river, Emma decides to bring him back using a mysterious Book of Shadows. A dedicated student, Emma delves into the online Wiccan world, learning enough to get her started but not enough to keep her out of trouble.

Emma learns that the Blood Moon of October is the time when the veil between our world and the spirit world is at its thinnest. The alignment of the Sun, Earth, and Moon opens a gateway into the Heavens, making this night the best opportunity to bring her friend back.

The Blood Moon is also known as a time of violence and aggression. Without realizing it, Emma invites danger into her life.

To commemorate the Blood Moon, Curiosity Quills is having a flash sale on How to Date Dead Guys (in the hopes that the world doesn't end before you finish reading it).

About Deceptive Cadence:
Cadence Anderson has the perfect definition of happily ever after . . .

Until she doesn't. A freak earthquake shatters her life as surely as her home, taking away everything she holds dear. She wakes in a hospital to find that her beloved husband and infant daughter have been killed, crushed by the earthquake's wrath. Disoriented, injured, and alone, Cadence refuses to accept the loss. So when a man claiming to be her guardian angel appears and offers her a chance to go back in time to save her family, she doesn't need to give it a second thought. She accepts.

Thrust back eleven years, she now faces the ordeal of high school all over again. But this time, she's armed with all the knowledge of her adult life and the determined to do everything better, from preventing the loss of her best friend to avoiding her original, drama-inducing boyfriends. She's focused solely on Austin, her future husband, and is content to bide her time until she meets him again.

But then James Gordon crosses her path. Cadence wants to remain single, but James has his sights set. He is determined to win her over, and he's very hard to resist. As Cadence starts to develop unwanted feelings for him, she realizes he threatens to disrupt everything, changing the future and distracting her from her original goal. Now, Cadence must choose: deny the unpredictable and exciting path James offers her, or stay true to the life she had and is trying desperately to resurrect. Second chances are more complicated than they seem.

Deceptive Cadence combines the soaring emotion of a heartfelt romance with the innovative storytelling of magical realism, crafting a uniquely moving, intricate tale about love and loss that asks: what would you do if given the chance to right all your wrongs?
