DON'T FEED DOG TREATS MADE IN CHINA

There are many beautiful places in China.

The manufacturing plants that make these toxic treats are not so pretty.

After treating a recent case of severe illness caused by tainted dog treats made in China, I got so upset I wrote yet another article for the local newspaper on this topic. I won't stop talking about it until the FDA finally issues a recall (which will never happen) or until everyone in America knows about it (which is also unlikely).

So I guess that means I'll never stop talking...

And for the writers of ignorant comments at the bottom of similar articles, this IS A REAL THING. I'm only one veterinarian, and I've treated at least two to three cases. Two cases where I'm positive the treats are fully to blame for each pet's severe illness, and one where there were other factors involved, but eating the treats made the pet much worse.

There are approximately 60,000 employed veterinarians in the United States. One veterinarian has openly discussed his battle with at least a dozen cases of Faconi syndrome caused by eating these treats. Doing the math, I suspect the FDA's listed stats as 1,000 pet deaths and 5,000 cases of pet illness are far too low. However, 6,000 cases of sickness should be enough to warrant the recall that never comes.

PLEASE don't feed your pets anything MADE IN CHINA. Note that "distributed by" is not the same thing as "made in".

DO CLOWNS FREAK YOU OUT? ME, TOO.

A LIST OF THINGS WHICH FREAK ME OUT:

CLOWNS
LARGE, HAIRY SPIDERS
PEOPLE PICKING THEIR NOSES (IN PUBLIC)
(good thing this book only covers one of them,
that's all I can handle at a time...)

This awesome, Buffy-esque cover was designed by Alexandria Thompson
(Yes, the same talented artist responsible for my book cover)

BOOK BLURB:

Remember waking up late in the night after a nightmare? Your mother holding you tight and whispering it's all just a dream and everything would be all right?

She lied.

Evil clowns haunted Megan's dreams for years. Even though nobody ever said she was crazy, she knew they were all thinking it. With her life falling apart, she turns suicidal until a new therapist suggests the impossible: dreams are real. Nightmares are living, breathing predators, feeding on dreamers' fears by Exacting Essence.

Most, of course, forget theirs as soon as they wake up. Megan is not so lucky. She's also not so powerless.

But is even a power nurtured within her dreams enough to fight off the horrors lurking just beyond the veil of sleep?

Whenever WROK 107 ran a contest, she would dive for the phone, getting busy signals and dead air every time. She never expected to get through, but at least with her best friend at her side, it used to be fun.

Before her parents ruined that too.

Her last desperate attempt to get their attention, falling in with a dangerous group of older teens, goes as wrong as possible. HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS COVER REVEAL

I've been waiting a long time for this...

Today I can finally share Alexandria Thompson's beautiful cover with the world:

Isn't it gorgeous? And so detailed. The river, the trees, the candles, the Book of Shadows, even the Smiley Face graffiti relates to the story.

In this case, it's NOT rude to stare.
Here's the full cover:

If you can't read the words on the back cover, here they are:

HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS
Under the Blood Moon Series:  Book One

College sophomore Emma Roberts remembers her mother’s sage advice:  “don’t sleep around, don’t burp in public, and don’t tell anyone you see ghosts”.  But when charming Mike Carlson drowns in the campus river under her watch, Emma’s sheltered life shatters.

Blamed for Mike’s death and haunted by nightmares, Emma turns to witchcraft and a mysterious Book of Shadows to bring him back.  Under a Blood Moon, she lights candles, draws a pentacle on the campus bridge, and casts a spell.  The invoked river rages up against her, but she escapes its fury.  As she stumbles back to the dorm, a stranger drags himself from the water and follows her home. And he isn't the only one.

Instead of raising Mike, Emma assists the others she stole back from the dead—a pre-med student who jumped off the bridge, a desperate victim determined to solve his own murder, and a frat boy Emma can’t stand…at first.
More comfortable with the dead than the living, Emma delves deeper into the seductive Book of Shadows.  Her powers grow, but witchcraft may not be enough to protect her against the vengeful river and the killers that feed it their victims.
Inspired by the controversial Smiley Face Murders, HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS will ignite the secret powers hidden deep within each of us.

THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD TO PUBLICATION

To continue my takeover of the internet, here is my first ever guest blog.

http://aussieownedandread.com/2014/05/29/featuring-2013-pitcharama-contestant-ann-noser/

Now I can officially claim the stamp below:

As stated in my guest blog, I started writing at the same time I first became a mother.
Talk about over-scheduling.

It really was a long road, but I'm very happy to be where I am now, publishing my first book HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS this summer (July 15th) with:

In fact, next week is the book cover reveal. I'm so excited for everyone to see how beautiful it is.

Have a great week and thanks for checking in.
Cheers!

AS SO IT BEGINS...

This summer, you'll be hearing a lot from me, partly because I talk too much, and mostly because the blog tour for HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS is approaching.

But my quest to take over the internet is not limited to the blog tour dates.
Oh, no. I'm greedy. (evil laugh)

So let's begin with an author interview.

CAN YOU HEAR ME SCREAMING?

Just received my FINAL proofs, galleys, whatever you want to call them for HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS!!!

Yes, this deserves three exclamation points. Be prepared for more of them, for I predict a liberal sprinkling of such punctuation tonight.

I'm even feeling so generous that I CARRIED a spider outside, instead of smushing its guts out in a Kleenex (but if it dares to come back inside, it's dead meat, man...). That's not my typical style. I may be a pick-up-worms-off-the-road-after-rainstorms kind of girl, but spiders don't usually see my gentle side.

Enough about spiders and worms. Let's talk about the book again.
All the edits look good.
We'll be sending out more ARCs (advanced reader copies) in the hopes of gathering more book reviews before the big day.

For me, this is big. Really BIG. (Not really about fish, but I love this movie and book, so I'm making this image work for me. And I hope you pick up this movie sometime--what a gem. Kind of a weird gem, but beautiful nonetheless.)

June 2nd is the book cover release date, but my son is more excited about the last day of school, a few days after that.

Sing with with me, Miss Piggy, "School's out for summer!"

July 15th is the date my words will be out there in the world, for all to see. I sure hope Emma makes some new friends. (She's going to need them, after what I put her through...)

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
